I Created Today...

I'm not quite sure what got in to me today
But I decided to create
Just a little bit

Remember this photo from my kitchen failure a couple weeks ago
Well, I finally decided to take a different path

I was doing a bit of junkin' yesterday and found these great spoons
And this sweet wooden harp thingy
They fit nicely over the stove
So that is where they will stay for now
I may add a piece or two
But I kind of like the simplicity of these pieces

The above space has Never had 1 piece of decoration
On it in the nearly 20 years I have lived in my home
I just never thought about adding anything

Last night I had an idea and stopped by Hobby Lobby
To purchase a few supplies
I am NOT an artist and don't consider myself very creative
But I thought I'd give something a try

I started with a blank canvas and came up with this
It is pretty much what I had in mind
I actually had fun and I like the end product

Before I hung the canvas I tried another new venture
I used Mod Podge (for the very first time)
And covered the wall with sheet music

I put the canvas up
And then added these two bird hangers that I
Found at Hobby Lobby awhile ago for $1 each
For now I just added a couple of red heart pot holders
But I will probably add something else later

I do like the finished project
However, I just walked into the kitchen
And felt a little over stimulated
I think I am more of a minimalist than I'd like to admit

The sheet music may possible get scraped off
One of these days
I'll see how I feel in the days ahead

Now on to other news:
When my son walked in the kitchen he said:
"Mom, I want an all white kitchen"

Me too!!!

Yet, One of the last big home projects my husband did
Was to sand and refinish our kitchen cabinets
They are a beautiful light oak
And I do love them

BUT:
I really do want an all white kitchen!

What do you think?
Is there any possible way you think I can put
Emotions aside and paint my cabinets????

  1. I am a new follower. Thanks for visiting my blog. Love the music and the words. Give it some time and you may really like it. As far as the cabinets......what a decision. I always think of all the work to paint them. Good luck with that one.

  2. It is fun to get creative. I can say that not all my creative projects came out as I imagined, but it is a learning experience.

  3. I love your new creation.

I have to say that I loved just the sign with the red carnations.

  4. I love what you've done in your kitchen. The sign is great and I'd be inspired by its words each day.

  5. I think you DID great! I love what you did with that bit of wall space. The words are very uplifting.

While it is hard to make changes, I think you'll be happy making some. I think your husband would be happy with you painting the cabinets white.

Before my husband left this planet, he told me that his workshop would now be mine and to do what I wanted with it. At first I did nothing but sob when I went in there to get a tool or supplies, but lately I've been thinking more about creating things in there. It all takes time and changes can be good and make us feel good too.

You are an inspiration to me.

  6. Your project is wonderful and I just love the sign. Yes I think painting the cabinets will be wonderful. I am in the process of getting ready to do my kitchen since I painted every other room of cabinets in the house. The kitchen is the last to be done and I hope to finish this month.

Good Luck, it will be gorgeous. Thanks for sharing your project and the inspiration.
    Blessings

  7. Oh yes! All White! You will love it and it will brighten up your life! It feels so clean! I love my white cabinets. I really do like the sheet music mod podge. I tried doing it over the weekend and made a mess. Yours looks great!

  8. That is such a cute idea to add something decorative to that end of your cabinets. I would have to say you really are creative! You may want to give it some time before changing it. It takes me a while to adjust to new things in my home too. You may end up liking it after all. I personally love a white kitchen, so I think if you would prefer it too, then go for it!

  9. I think you did a great job with the sheet music, and the sign. The hooks with the red pot holders is a nice pop of color. I agree with everyone...give it some time to get used to. Then decide.
After my first husband passed away, I made some big changes. I needed to let go, and see what changes would be right for me. I love my white kitchen. It feels fresh. If that's what you want to try...then go for it. You will never know, unless you at least try.

  10. Hi Cindy, I think you are very creative and I love what you made!
As for a white kitchen-I'd say go for it girl. In fact, kitchen and baths are the only place I think one should paint solid wood(in my humble opinion). We've always had oak cabinets, furniture etc and oak is out of style now, so why not.
Let us know what you decide. I think your hubby would have been fine with your doing something different.

  11. Hi Cindy. I, personally, love it. Live with it a few days and you might too..It's fun to create something new. The first time you think about changing something that has memories behind it, it's really hard, but in the end you do have to do what moves you. And you will be happy..Have a good rest of the week..Judy

  12. How very charming, and what a treat to see as you wake and head in for coffee. I seem to have been out of touch lately, and am looking forward to getting back into all your lovely archives.

You're pondering the same thing I've been thinking of off and on for YEARS. I've long wanted to paint a huge old knotty-pine hutch cream or white, and always said that when Daddy was gone, I'd probably paint it. He's been gone from us these ten years, and I've still not got around to getting it spruced up.

It was one of the first pieces of furniture he made for our house when I was growing up---they built on a big dining room, with those groove-plank walls, like every den and family room of the Fifties, and the hutch was made of those boards, as well, with the huge old black what I call "stable strap" hinges and handles of that era.

I always put it off when he was living, because he didn't like any kind of medding with wood---you could varnish it, but don't ever cover the wood.

I've had the KILZ for the knots and the beautiful creamy paint for a couple of years now, and every year, I make an excuse---the Summer's too hot or nobody's here right now to carry it up and out of the house. I've even got a wonderful recipe for a crock-pot cleaning of all the hardware.

And Sentiment DOES play the biggest part, doesn't it? It's just so hard to change things around, for a part of our clinging to all the memories is the taking care of THINGS associated with other times.

I've just told myself this week that this is the TIME. I'm all prepared, and maybe I'll be READY.
