A New Favorite Shop

Hi Friends,

I was so excited to find a new area to go junkin'
I ventured Way out of my comfort zone
And drove up to Cave Creek and Cactus
I know, Waaaay out of Ahwatukee :)

I've been following a blog for a few months
And it's writer just opened a booth inside a cute shop
So, I just Had to go visit during their monthly Warehouse Sale

The regular shop is open daily
But once a month they open the Warehouse

Rusty Saturday is the shop
And The Salvage Yard is their monthly special

Above is a photo of the booth that my new blog friend has
My Desert Cottage
I loved everything in her space
But only bought 2 items
They will appear in an upcoming reveal in the next week or two
You can actually see both items in this photo :)

I was happy to find there are several other shops
In the same general location
I believe I ventured into 10 shops
Within 1 mile of each other
Super fun place to hang out with a friend for a day

I also bought one item that is photoed above
Can you guess what it is?

Loved this dresser
I am planning on painting my very vintage dresser
That belonged to my grandfather soon
I hope it turns out this nice

So many fun things to look at

Almost bought this sign but it was blue
So, I may actually make one myself

My greatest pleasure was to actually meet
Karen from My Desert Cottage
She is so very sweet and has a super fun personality
You can visit her blog here
And if you live anywhere in the Phoenix metro or surrounding areas
You can visit her space at Rusty Saturday

Rusty Saturday on Facebook
Rusty Saturday webpage

I'd just Love to take YOU shopping with me

What are you doing Next Saturday?
It's time for "Junk In The Trunk" Vintage Markey
And I'm Going!!!!!!

She's Finished

Isn't it funny how certain pieces of furniture
Or even cars seem to have a gender character

This piece I purchased a month or so ago
Is definitely a She

As you may recall
I revealed her 'before' photo
And announced that she was getting a make over

The above photos were how I found her
At one of my favorite little antique/craft stores
'Tillies Attic' for only $20

I mentioned that I was going to use Anne Sloan Chalk Paint
For the first time

Well, She is Finished
And I love her

She required quite a bit of fix it work
Her door was broken and needed repair

I wouldn't usually use E6000 for this type of project
But it worked extremely well

Once she was prepped and repaired the process was rather simple
The paint went on very smoothly
It dries quickly so you can put 2 or 3 coats on in just a couple hours

The wax was a bit messy
I preferred to use an old t-shirt rather than a brush
And then buffed it out
My biggest con regarding Anne Sloan Chalk Paint
Is honestly the price
$40 a quart plus $30 for the wax
It is true that I have enough left for at least 2 more projects
Of about the same size
But it is pricey for most of us

This beauty will sit in my dining area
The drawer will hold napkins and napkin rings

While the lower cabinet will hold other table linens
I do plan to find a couple of small baskets to place inside
That will keep everything looking neater
And more organized

I LOVE my little $20 girl
I'm sure I will redecorate her surface in the days ahead
Just need to shop my house and find the right pieces

QUESTION:
In the photo above
The sign at the top of the photo
Would you dry brush the frame white???
So much of my home has black frames and black furniture
I'm trying to lighten things up a bit
What do you think??

AND
Inside the drawer I found 3 wheels for the cabinet
Now, I have to go shopping to find a 4th
Maybe that's why it was only $20

I am in Love with Her :)
Thank you for letting me share my Girl!!

My Little Project

I've been working on this piece today
I found her a month or so ago at a little antique shop
For only $20

She's about half way finished

I hope to have her done and in place tomorrow!
I am enjoying my first experience
With Anne Sloan Chalk Paint

Have you tried it?
What was your experience?

Now, I must make sure the house is secured
As we are in the midst of a Haboob
(Major Dust Storm)
 YUCK!!!!!

Baby, She Needs a Makeover

Hi Friends

I found this little beauty about a month ago
And Baby, She Needs a Makeover
But she was on $22 so I couldn't pass her by

I think she's older than I am
So we Know she's old - LOL

And, she is well worn
Kind of like me

However,
She has such character, charm and she called my name

It doesn't show well in these photos
But she has a yellow color to her
Which does not fit into my home at all

Her cabinet doors have all but broken off
So she'll need lots of TLC
To try to restore her

But she is definitely worth the effort it will take
To bring her beauty back
Or at least, Make her more presentable

I'm looking forward to working her over
This coming weekend

What are your plans??
Have you found a fun piece to re-make lately??
Do Share!

I Created Today...

I'm not quite sure what got in to me today
But I decided to create
Just a little bit

Remember this photo from my kitchen failure a couple weeks ago
Well, I finally decided to take a different path

I was doing a bit of junkin' yesterday and found these great spoons
And this sweet wooden harp thingy
They fit nicely over the stove
So that is where they will stay for now
I may add a piece or two
But I kind of like the simplicity of these pieces

The above space has Never had 1 piece of decoration
On it in the nearly 20 years I have lived in my home
I just never thought about adding anything

Last night I had an idea and stopped by Hobby Lobby
To purchase a few supplies
I am NOT an artist and don't consider myself very creative
But I thought I'd give something a try

I started with a blank canvas and came up with this
It is pretty much what I had in mind
I actually had fun and I like the end product

Before I hung the canvas I tried another new venture
I used Mod Podge (for the very first time)
And covered the wall with sheet music

I put the canvas up
And then added these two bird hangers that I
Found at Hobby Lobby awhile ago for $1 each
For now I just added a couple of red heart pot holders
But I will probably add something else later

I do like the finished project
However, I just walked into the kitchen
And felt a little over stimulated
I think I am more of a minimalist than I'd like to admit

The sheet music may possible get scraped off
One of these days
I'll see how I feel in the days ahead

Now on to other news:
When my son walked in the kitchen he said:
"Mom, I want an all white kitchen"

Me too!!!

Yet, One of the last big home projects my husband did
Was to sand and refinish our kitchen cabinets
They are a beautiful light oak
And I do love them

BUT:
I really do want an all white kitchen!

What do you think?
Is there any possible way you think I can put
Emotions aside and paint my cabinets????

A Few More of My Sweet Finds

Tonight I'm sharing just a few more of my sweet finds
I could not believe it when I found this item for $2

Yes, that's right $2
I grabbed it immediately and put it in the trunk of my car

Once the little K's where finished painting their flower pots the other day
I used the rest of the paint to liven up the round shelves

It's on the back patio and I keep the little K's
Watering cans on it as well as a few petunias

I'm not sure if I shared this already but
I found this beauty at Sweet Salvage 2 weeks ago for a very fair price
The girls Love it
In face K~Bel has claimed it as her own

This is another Sweet Salvage find
I fell in love with this beautifully patina(ed) copper pot

She didn't need any updating
I just put her on the back patio as well
And added a couple cups filled with petunias

I may eventually plant something in the pot
But for now I didn't want to drill drain holes in her
So she'll just receive potted flowers for now

I have several other finds to share
But I'm trying to finish up a couple of projects with them
You'll have to check back soon

I can't believe that Sweet Salvage is next week again
Ummm...I may have to pass this one up...

Or NOT!!

Enjoy your Day Friends

A Couple Goodies

Hi Friends

I had a great time at Sweet Salvage this weekend
I not only went on Friday
I popped by again today and picked up a few more items

Once home I worked on one small project inside
And a project outside
Here is what I did inside

There has been a fairly blank wall in my kitchen
That needed a bit of something

I pulled the sign in from my LR
And added this cute picket fence post hanger
(found at Tillie Attic)
I painted the top of an old round table
(need to paint the legs next week)
I added a $2 lamp post
A bird house that I found at Sweet Salvage
As well as the white apron I found there
A photo and my cute little squirrel

There were many bird houses at the shop
But I liked the size and shape of this one
So it came home with me

When I saw this picket fence post
I knew exactly where it would go

I Love the knobs that it was created with

This piece has such character

Maybe I will purchase another apron or two
But for now, I like what I have

Mostly
I like this once empty space
I'll live with it for a few days
And make changes as I feel the need

I have plenty more items that I purchased
But will probably share them
As I use them in my home

Can't wait to head back to Sweet Salvage
Next Month :)

Have a Super Week
